Do you have a friend(s), lost in combat, that has a special place on days of remembrance? Share a bit about them and what you remember. (I know this may be difficult, but you can keep them alive here).

I have a few ghosts that I deal with:

L/Cpl. James D. Travis- killed in the ASP#1 mine field (non-hostile) four months after our arrival.
Cpl. Ronald E. Eberle-Died of wounds, ground fire/helo crash, 10 days left.
L/Cpl. Marcia Wilbanks- Died of accidental discharge .45 (non-hostile) about five days after I left country.
L/Cpl. Linden Brittingham- Killed in the TET offensive, battle for Hue, manning a duster.

The saddest thing about these losses is the fact that half of them were non-hostile, stupid accidents. Something I saw way to much of over there.
Let's be careful out there!!!!

Cpl Dennis, I could not agree with you more but let's just throw in "Friendly Fire" deaths. I saw too many incidents that could have been by better training and leadership.

Cpl Dennis F. I just had the 10 yr anniversary of a great friend who along with his copilot, made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq. I met the family and gave them a framed picture of the two of us flying in Iraq. It was great for the healing process. Hey, new avatar picture! Looks good brother!

SFC Mark Merino My best friend, Cpl. Ron Eberle, that joined with me, (mortar man) went down in a Huey 10 days before his tour was up. Died in Bethesda within days of burns and Brain stem contusions. I don't think that one will ever go away.

Cpl Dennis F. They stick with us because we loved them, but no one that loves you EVER wants you to be unhappy. I got rid of a bunch of nightmares when I had a crazy dream. I was walking with some of my fallen friends and they were happy together and they asked me why I felt that being miserable would be welcome by any of them? I don't know if it was my mind trying to make sense of the loss or God watching out for me but I was pulled out of my misery. The best way I know to honor my friends is to try to live a happy and meaningful life.
