I see this a lot but if the dfacs are open can a single soldier be denied the chance to go just because there are mre's there.

Soldiers should not be denied the option, however, there are times when the mission just will not allow it. Mission is a subjective term. It could mean prepping for a convoy or MOUT operations or it could be doing a PMCS. When you progress a little further in the ranks and have Soldiers under you (unless you already do), make attempts to work the schedule around DFAC times. Heck, even if they have to get a to-go plate to come back and keep working, keep your Soldiers feed. An Army runs on its stomach.

I know for the AF side of the house (prior to the campus dining) they could, but the chain of command would have to fill a missed meal form.

MSgt I have seen that and tried after missing meals with s1 they said oh well get to the dfac next time instead of being lazy when on my post we never in my unit at least find out which dfac is open by the time we do they have closed as well the issue of bus being late for those who don't drive

That happened exactly one time in my career where the supervision refused to fill out the paperwork for missed meals. One IG complaint later and several Letters of Reprimand from the Unit Commander later, folks were always allowed to go to the DFAC or miss meals were filed.

What is the context? Was something mission essential and MRE's were prvided to add manhours to the task at hand?

Sfc the context was work and mission based but even when work was completed people were held after without any known given reason

SPC (Join to see) The truth is man, weather you want to believe it or not, if you don't have a meal card and you are single, and your unit gives you a meal....I don't know what the argument would be. I mean I guess you COULD go to IG with it. However I would tread very lightly there as well. I feel as if a piece of the pie is missing here.
