That's a good point, SSgt Donnie West, and I recall from my ACAP sessions that certain franchises offer incentives (or special deals) to military members who are separating. That seems like a good way to get started in one's own business. Franchises may be somewhat expensive, but with the incentives, they may be within our reach.

Mr. Montgomery; thank you for your post; I thought about the franchise route but just did not have the net worth or min. to get started. plus I did not want to go the loan way and have to pay back all that money when I haven't made a profit yet. so I started in direct sales with 5linx and it has changed my life. chief; I just want to introduce our company to you just for information purpose. just text the keyword: donniec to: 55469 listen to the message and watch the presentation. just want you thoughts on it if you can.

Thanks for this post SSgt Donnie West! Speaking of franchises CW5 (Join to see), RallyPoint now has a new pilot program aiming to help veterans become business owners.  RP has partnered with some of the franchises best known for supporting vets and you should check a few of them out here:

Homewatch Caregivers: https://www.rallypoint.com/organizations/homewatch-caregivers--2/overview

ACFN: https://www.rallypoint.com/organizations/acfn-san-jose-ca/overview

Elizabeth Malkin has been in touch with these organizations would be happy to assist in any way.

Thank you, I keep preaching to Vets to start their own business.

I was broke with no money and bankrupt. I wrote a business plan, raised $203,000 in 2 weeks from strangers and was a millionaire 3 1/2 years later.I tell you how to do it in my book, One Million in the Bank: How To Make $1,000,000 With Your Own Business, Even If You Have No Money Or Experience (On Amazon). You really, really should read it. I have also written a Veterans' Guide To One Million in the Bank. It does have good original material, but you must get the main book.

You can do it. If you plan right. All of the 12 stories in my book, people were millionaires in 3-7 years from starting with nothing. Feel free to contact me with questions after or before you get the book, http://www.onemillioninthebank.com.
God bless! Good Luck!

Some of us, myself included, are not wired for business ownership. Some are good in charge, some are good enacting others demands and some are just good at doing.

SSgt Donnie West I think you are correct. At some point we find something that is in our niche and we take charge, situation dependent. Most veterans can be counted on to enact order given pretty well. Most veterans can take charge in a crisis and make things happen. But business ownership is more than reaction. It is careful consideration of targets such as: customers, location, supply, demand, ordering, selling, taxes, hiring, etc. Many of us though certainly capable are unwilling to accept these challenges and are more comfortable staying in the zone of worker. Many of those who overcome the comfort zone trap, can be successful entrepreneurs. And then again there are a great deal of those who try and find themselves incapable.

I've started 2 businesses over the last 15 years. First a mortgage business, which did pretty well. Second, a life insurance agency of which we have agents in several states. Along with that we are working on some business interests in Florida. It has not been without it's trials and tribulations. Certainly mixed with success. I've had a lot of business coaching that helped me overcome a lot of issues and restructure my brain for business success. I was used to working 40 plus hours a week as an "employee." The problem is most of us have an employee mentality. That was the first thing I had to overcome. I've interviewed a lot of people for positions for our insurance agency. It's a commission only business where agents have the potential to make really good money while protecting families. We offer training, etc. I would have to say the number one issue of why they are not successful is fear. Fear of rejection, fear of success, fear of failure, etc. Which is funny/ironic considering what most of us have done! I've dealt with it all and am still working it out. Anyone can start their own business, but it's the ones who will take a good hard look at themselves, have a good mentor/coach, educate themselves above and beyond (I'm not necessarily speaking about formal education either), do the work that needs to be done, are willing to suffer in the short term for a longer term gain, are willing to do what others won't so they can have/ do and what others can't; then you may have a successful business. If you want it bad enough you will find a way to make it happen and will endure.

Cpl Lampsso; thank you my bro. you took the words out of my mouth. that is the whole point. we as veterans and about to be a veteran we have to get over the fear factor and the most important is the fear of rejection. its good to see you are doing well in your business. I am too; and it's been very rewarding. I love helping people and at the same time make money across the nation. if you need anything on my end to help you grow your business; let me know.
