This seems a lot better than random PCS's and then having to find a job once you get there.

That is suppose to be what ASK is for... If used properly and actually viewed by branch managers, then it would be no issue. I have been on TDA assignment before only to see people that didnt want to be there get selected and those who volunteered not get selected. Career progression is one thing, but a soldier should have more input to his own career instead of being at the mercy of a branch manager that only know you by what your ERB looks like.

That makes perfect sense, I would take it one further and say that there should not be an NCO/Officer at HRC for a Soldiers Career Progression and Professional Development.  That is the purpose of DA Pam 600-25/600-3.  If a NCO/Officer wants to dodge the assignments that have been set forth as career builders, then by all means allow them to set that path to failure.  After a certain point in a Soldiers career, the training wheels should come off.  They should be left to apply the guidance and mentorship they have received and continue to receive from seniors and peers along with their personal toolbag and either fail or flourish.

Believe it or not when ASK was first created within AKO, that was the philosophy and mentality of HRC for this area and option, but that actually only lasted for the 1st year and then went its own direction as far as the HRC part of it was being followed through on.
