Normally a commander can only allow a small part of the unit to be on leave block leave is a time that is blocked off for leave no training so everyone can be on leave at the same time. It is used mostly for thing like holidays, before or after major field exercises or deployments.

Block leave is usually locked in on the training calendar in the lead up to a mission. All other times, commanders manage leave of the unit using AR 600-8-10. This is all supported all the way up the chain and is not done for random convenience.

I have no doubt, LTC Jason Mackay. Just a question. We didn't have the same deal. Just wanting to understand the process. Thanks for the reply.

Some units have periods designated for leave. Yes, it is unfortunate.
Depending on location like in Korea, it is restricted to a % of the unit.
Some units may allow leave at any time depending on the position.

Thanks for the answer, MAJ Raúl Rovira. Just to be sure, I'm not questioning the policy. Just looking for clarification for my knowledge.

TSgt David L. - A few years back I worked for an Air Force 2-Star. I asked a lot of questions when it came to admin, leave, and evaluations. I understand where you are coming from. I would do the same.

Roger that, Sir. Our leave could be granted lower, for longer than a Navy Chief's could when I was an Instructor at the EOD School. Kind of funny!
