In dual military family, what is the proper BAH that a soldier should be receiving without children?

Yeah, I don't think this is so much an issue anymore. Today's junior Soldiers make more money are provided with *a lot* of freebies that make their lower paychecks easier to handle. That being said, I have had many junior Soldiers in the past 18 years who have been horrible at money management and blown large amounts of their paychecks on frivolous things causing financial hardships. This is not a problem with the Army pay system, but with the Soldier. In these instances, their NCO needs to pull them aside and counsel them on how to properly handle money (and discipline if necessary). If that fails, you might need to bring it to the 1SG's attention for a more serious intervention.

Used to spend a lot of time with finances of the young Marines. Some thought as long as they had checks, they had money. It was worse overseas due to the temptations of the bar flies. A lot got into trouble with long distance also. One had run up over $10,000 on long distance phone line he had put it in barracks. At $ 10 for 3 minutes to call CONUS it accumulates in a hurry. He had to be extended on Okinawa on legal hold to pay it off before he could rotate home. He also had about $ 5000 in bad checks. We used to get a fresh stack every week until we finally got a handle on it and seized his checkbook. He was on health & comfort pay ($25/pay day) when I left and was going to be on the island for close to an extra year to pay off everything. Now it's cell phones and car payments that get them in trouble I suppose.

If I may, my son is a newly promoted E4 in the Army stationed at FT Polk, His wife is stationed same place and an E3. He says on top of his BAH pay they also take out more money. He also said he had to pay $600 recently to avoid eviction and does not even know why. Maybe this is the new Army and he is uninformed, but I recall living on base, and not paying for anything else in housing costs. what Regs can I find finance info? Thanks

SFC (Retired) Efrain Hernandez - I don't know of your son's situation. I do know that if you are on-base housing the you generally aren't supposed to receive BAH. However I am not entirely sure how this works for military couple these days.

this sounds fishy - He should be getting BAH with dependant his spouse without dependant - on post housing should be a wash, meaning they take the BAH of both. I would tell him to talk to his NCO support channel, and get his 1SG involved. seems to me that there is some things not being conveyed to you.

I should have referred you to a recent regular army NCO, thanks SSG Robert Perrotto - And, I agree, there is probably something else going on if they are both military. Their BAH + basic pay should be more than enough to cover normal living expenses or they should have housing provided.
