I am currently NG reserve and have a child due next month. Up until last month the "baby mama" and I were living together, happily in love and building our future together. Partially due to hormones and my inability to get full time steady work we split up and I moved home to my home state of PA. She still lives in VA.

Unlike most 23 year old fathers to be I want to be in my childs life because I know what it is like to grow up with out a father. I am looking into getting a lawyer to assist me in all the legal procedings, but does anyone have any other insight or advice as to something else I can/ should be doing?

Also there will be a paternity test as I do not completely trust her word that I am the only person she was with in the past 8-9 months.

If the paternity test does show that you are the baby's daddy, pay the support, and at least make attempts to see the baby, if you don't she can use that against you in any visitation or custody case.

Also, document every single conversation you have with her regarding the baby, even if it seems unimportant, document everything!!
