I was talking to some peers and this topic arose, and there have been many different answers (even from different finance offices) and it seems to almost be a grey area. A dual active military couple (not married) are going to have a child but remain unmarried for X amount of time. One partner is already on single-rate BAH due to previous situations, the other is living in barracks but plans to reside with the other once the child is born. I have heard conflicting information regarding regulations with custody and BAH, and it seems to be a grey area, does anyone have any knowledge of this?

Okay. So here is how it works. They are a military couple. He is recieving BAH. That is his entitlement. When she has the kid, she will receive BAH if she is the sole caregiver. They both will recieve BAH the female BAH w/ dependent rate. The male soldier at whatever he was receiving before. Only one parent can claim the bah w/ dependent rate. They are considered more of roommates because the army only cares when there is a ring or maybe in some issues of common law.
