I will be PCS-ing to Fort Bliss early in April, I am an 11B and I heard that the 2nd BCT of the 1st AD doesn't deploy, I was wondering why, if any body has insight it would be nice; I would also like to know if there is any way to volunteer for deployment, so you could piggy back with another brigade or unit; being an infantryman, I do not want to be a garrison soldier so any insight would be helpful.

I was in the 5th BCT 1AD at Bliss in 2010 when I left Active Duty. As far as I knew we were the only BCT in 1AD that didn't deploy, because we were the Army Evaluation Task Force. Before I left they were in process of bringing the rest of Division in from Germany, standing some up and grabbing units like 4/1 CAV. They put their Joes with us for a few months while they completed their barracks on Biggs and none of them were under the impression they were staying put for long. That was 5 years ago though and things change. Lol enjoy white sands middle range, Donna Ana base camp and the "Devil's asscrack" in the summer!

I heard that 2/1 doesn't deploy because it's a training brigade. I don't know about volunteering.
