Has 670-1 done away with "commercially mounted" ribbon racks (the old version specifically mentioned it - the new one I can't find it)?

There used to be a specific passage that said Soldiers could commercially mount ribbons and said that the backing must be black or match the uniform. It doesn't seem to carry that passage at all anymore in either AR or the DA PAM. Unless I'm missing it somewhere.

Also can't find the backing mention. Sorry, but seems that got left out. I think GEN Schwarzkopf wore his with a black backing in the old greens. I suppose it is a less noticeable choice in current ASU ensemble.

Yeah, I don't think "GEN Schwarzkopf wore it that way" is going to fly when justifying the commercially-mounted ribbon rack. That's why I'm trying to find specific wording.

I think a lot of people would need to toss their commercial ribbon racks if there's nothing that says it's authorized. I know I'm hesitant to wear mine, now.

CW2 (Join to see) - GOs can design their own uniforms, so never say that it is OK because a GO did it. Although if the GO is your CG, you can usually get away with it. Such as the short sleeve fatigues we wore in the Nam, Westy wore them so no one said anything.

In 11-6 the PAM states that the uniform may be worn with accessories and further states that the uniform may be purchased from commercial sources, but then it remains the Soldier's responsibility to ensure it is compliant. I know the PAM specifically mentions commercial variants nearly everywhere else, but this reads fairly clear in my humble opinion.

It says it must be compliance, but compliance is no longer specified when it comes to ribbon racks. Previously it specifically stated what color the backing of the commercial ribbons must be. It not longer says that, so you can't use that paragraph in my opinion to justify the commercial ribbons.
Also that paragraph is referring specifically to the fabric and uniform itself not the ribbons.

Fair, but the uniform did list "accessories". I would definitely have placed ribbons in that category, but I suppose your point proves you can never play it too safe with the regs. Don't want to get torn up for being ate up.
