If you are using the UCP then you should be using UCP name tapes and the old greenish fleece cap though I have seen people use black.
If you are using the new one, Coyote Brown then it should be with OCP tapes and a black or coyote fleece cap. I'm told you can wear the UCP tapes with the new fleece until you get the OCP tapes in.

For example I have a black fleece cap issued from my PT's. I do not have a brown fleece cap, and I asked where I could get one. They said one should be issued to me at some point but until then the black one is acceptable or I can buy one at a PX but they're not forcing me to.

This is the correct answer, with one exception. The coyote brown fleece cap is not authorized for Army Soldiers; only the foliage green and black ones are. The CB one is for the Marine Corps.

1SG (Join to see) - I think some Soldiers might be wearing the wrong ones then Top.

SPC (Join to see) - There shouldn't be a name/branch tape option on the gortex, at least mine doesn't have one. The slide on rank exists but be careful it can come off if you're crawling.

IF you are still using the old UCP then you should use your green fleece with the UCP tapes.
If you are wearing the newer OCP (which I suspect as a new Private you were issued during training) then you should wear the Coyote Brown fleece with the OCP patterned tapes.

Some units are allowing Soldiers to wear mixed cold weather patterns (Especially in the Reserve) until the funding exists to issue the new pattern. Check with your unit.

I will be in the same boat..headed to Ft Knox in late winter with OCP uniforms but older UCP patterned winter gear and TA-50. I will feel silly....warm, but silly.
