Robert O’Neill, a SEAL turned public speaker, has been named by the UK’s Daily Mail and the special operations community blog SOFrep.com as the member of SEAL Team 6 who fired the shots that killed bin Laden in a May 2011 raid on his compound in Abottabad, Pakistan."

He left the service with 16 years in? I wonder why? I think Batman said it best. "I wear a mask to keep those I love safe" I couldn't do that to my family. Of course, the closest I came to being a SEAL was me going to Sea World. I could never make it past the "T-shirt job application" (aka: "Here, fill this out").

I see this issue all the time. Ego kicks out common sense. Ego forgets about oaths, camaraderie, operational security. Like my grandfather used to say: "A hard-on has no conscience"

While the Navy Seal who took Bin Laden's life was acting under orders, I do not think that will matter to the radical Islamists world. The fact that the names got leaked out is what concerns me more. Missions of classified nature should have protected his identity and that of his family. We should endeavor to plug all leaks and punish those responsible. Also, the radicals need to know where the order came from (not that it would matter) as we are all under authority and follow the orders of our superiors. I hope and pray that his safety can be maintained (as well as his family).

Unfortunately, his apparent quest for fame and, possibly, fortune may result in a very sad situation for him and his family. I hope and pray her comes out of this OK, as far as his physical condition is concerned. However, if it is found that he violated security sanctions, he should be required to pay the piper.

I wonder when the quiet professionals stopped being so quiet? My morbid curiosity is always happy to find out new information about things like this but I can't help but think it were better left as "need to know" info.

I think it was about the time politicians started using them as propaganda tools. Leaking which unit did what, giving Hollywood unprecedented access to Spec Ops communities to make movies like Zero Dark Thirty. I think Spec Ops veterans are finally just saying, well everyone is profiting off me, except me. So, I might as well cash in too. At least, that's just my opinion. The opinion of someone who admittedly is not part of the Spec Ops community and has had only a little contact with them over the years. So, I could be wrong.
