We each took an oath to defend our nation, to support our way of life. We served our country and we reap benefits from a (sometimes) grateful nation. Throughout the good and the bad of our careers-- and sometimes the ugly experience of combat--we gain valuable perspective as citizen soldiers. What is your perspective about Democracy, about America? Or is it DemocraZy? Where do you stand, how to you evaluate us now that you've paid your dues?

Although it may sound cliché, SGM (Join to see), I think freedom is the best thing about American democracy. Plain and simple.

I love our freedoms, and I also truly believe that America is still a place where, no matter how poor you start off, if you work hard enough (or sometimes if you're just lucky) you can raise yourself at least into the middle class, and in many cases higher. Yes, those who start off in affluent families have an easier time attaining a comfortable living but for someone like me who grew up in government housing projects it is still possible to get there as well.

There are other countries out there that are starting to allow more freedoms and opportunity, but America is the torchbearer that led them there. And for me it is home.

CPT Williams...agree- we didn't become the world's first superpower by being last. Or sitting on our ass.

Lt Col (Join to see), I'm not necessarily saying America is the greatest country in the world, but if not who is? I can't think of any other country that would stand out as the "Greatest." As some do with the US, pick a contender and a laundry list of shortcomings can be pointed out.

Perhaps, but there are many areas where the US is not number 1, or even in the top ten. Things like education, infant mortality, hell, even our space program is reliant on Russian built rockets because we dismantled our own organic space program. You are probably right that there aren't a lot of countries as good across the whole gamut of factors, but there are many better than us in several areas. I hope we can re-capture that greatness...as stated in the clip above, the willingness to build great big things, make ungodly technological advances, and stop panicking every time someone says the word terrorism.
