As someone who writes frequently I greatly value the auto-correct feature found on many computer programs and online applications. I have become so accustomed to it that I actually find it somewhat frustrating when I am typing into a program that does not have it. This concerns me slightly; am I slowly becoming less able to spell check for myself? What do you think? Should auto- correct be more wide spread, or do we need to go back to basics?

Good question, CPT (Join to see), and I know just what you mean. I'll be typing along and misspell a work, but I keep going because I know that auto-correct will take care of it. That's probably not good, especially - as you say - when in a program or app that does not use auto-correct. Then I have to up my game a bit.

I wish I could find the study that was done about this. It indicated that there was not a significant change in spelling ability between phonetic spellers with or without use of auto-correct. I don't think it is going to make you worse

I think we should go away from it to a point. I depend on it so much i am starting to get lazy about my spelling.
