I wish I'd been about 20 years more mature. I'd have done things more correctly, stayed out of trouble, limited the booze, and definitely taken advantage of every opportunity to get free education. Unfortunately I was just a dumb kid who lived for the moment - meaning I went out partying most nights. The Army was a job. I should have treated it as such. Which means giving it my best.

Your question leaves me puzzled. It sounds as if you are not happy being in the military. If you are then leave at your earliest opportunity. If I am mistaken, do not look for ways to gain anything. Do your job well, take care of Soldiers, lead by example and everything else will fall into place. Thank you for your service.

I'm happy in the military. But things don't usually fall in to place without working on things on your own.
I've received good advice from superiors that allowed me to better myself faster than just going to work and doing the minimum.
Let's keep it real, not everyone makes it to csm, and there are mistakes along the way that others might not need to make up learn those lessons.
I appreciate your comment

CSM Darieus ZaGara
You are correct, not everyone makes CSM. But everyone has the same opportunities. Since you are where you want to be keep working hard and soliciting guidance. Take on the hard assignments and roles. Take the opportunity to work on college as well. I have a feeling you will do very well.
