I have found that it is a whole lot easier to remain emotionally centered - not sink into depression or go off the handle - when I have something to do that I enjoy. I like to stay busy with writing. I also go out with friends to sing karaoke, do stand-up comedy, and various other activities. What kinds of things do you like to do in order to keep your mind in the right place?

I am a life-long, avid reader. When I read, I do not see words. I see pictures in my head. This makes it easy for me to escape this world for another. To this day, I do so regularly, facilitated now by my Kindle, which I can ship out with thousands of books with, where before I had to deal with physical ones.

I wanted to learn to play the guitar, even bought one and brought it with me to Iraq during my second deployment. I only learned how to play What It's Like by Everlast though lol.

SGT Joseph Gunderson - I began in Afghanistan with a Polish officer who would let me borrow his guitar. Once back in Alaska, I bought one. Google and YouTube have been my teachers. I can't read music, at least I can keep the campfire entertained :)
