This can be answered two ways! From a first person point of view or from a third person point of view. This question applies for enlisted as well as officers. From a first person point of view I will say the rank I had the most difficulty with was Cpl/E-4, and from a third person point of view, the rank I had the most difficulty with was the Captain in the officer rank structure.

Like you, SSG(P) (Join to see), I personally had the toughest time as a Spec 4. And the rank I had the most trouble with, later in my career and as a civilian, was LTC. And that may be unfair, but it's true. I had a boss who was a "challenge" (to say the least), and he was a Lieutenant Colonel.

My input here is that E3 Airman First Class and 2Lt were the toughest. A1C because you were expected to produce and it always seemed to get handed the shit jobs. 2Lt because I has to go from being a highly qualified TSgt JTAC to a numb nuts 2Lt... where everyone assumed I needed a clue brick in the forehead every other day for the first six months (it got better after people got to know me..)

I think a E-6, was for me the most difficult. The senoir NCO's don't want you and niether did the lower ranks either, since you were right next door to senior nco ranks
