In my current unit, we got a Ranger Bat deployed E-5, but no Tab, so mthat made me wonder cause I’ve been told that if you go Regiment without the school they’d basically just send you immediately. I do want the Tab as well but I was just curious.

Also: Could I get a RASP packet or Ranger school at Fort Irwin? Thanks for any info provided.

If all you want is the Tab then your unit can send you to Ranger School, that’s if your chain of command will support it and you are ready to go. No one gets into Regiment without going through RASP, tab or no tab. If it’s an assignment with the 75th you desire, go to the 75th Ranger Regiment home page and contact their recruiters. In response to another’s comment, you cannot compare RASP and Ranger School. The two are completely different courses.

I will tell you this, you will be treated “better” as an incoming tabbed SPEC-4, however, if you really want to know your job as a Ranger private rifleman, SAW Gunner, machine gunner, goose gunner, then I would wait to prove myself while in Regiment. They have a lot of slots for Ranger School, and they will send you when they know you’re ready.

As for understand if you can go to Ranger School at this time, I would get with a Schools NCO and figure out how many slots are allocated with your unit. Either way, train as if you were getting ready for Ranger anything.

Good luck.

You don't need a tab for RASP. The Ranger Batt will send you to Ranger School when they think you're ready. And even then, there's no guarantee of graduation. So he may have deployed prior to attending Ranger school and then transferred after the deployment. He may have gone and not graduated. The list goes on. There are several things that could have happened.

To be a bit more specific, RASP is a shortened version of Ranger School that is the initial entry school for enlisted Rangers going to the Regiment and by all accounts, as difficult as Ranger School, just shorter. I believe the Rangers refer to it as being Scrolled. Then your battalion sends you to the regular Ranger school as slots become available, usually as an E4. As you mentioned, as an E-5, he could be a Ranger School recycle, may have been in a slot that doesn't require RASP or Ranger School, or simply transferred over and just hasn't been given a slot yet.
