Good Evenong everyone,

I am currently leaving AFROTC as I was not awarded a slot to go to Field Training along with 30 others in my det. I face some very inconvenient choices - either extend ANOTHER year in college and competing again next year with even more competitive numbers.

I spoke with AROTC about my situation and they said they will do their best to put me in Basic Camp this summer. I told him that AF selection rates are what hit me and the other 29 cadets of AFROTC - he said that in AROTC, they select everyone TO GO to Basic and Advanced Camps. He also said that THESE DAYS THEY ARE COMMISSIONING ANYONE AS LONG AS THEY ARE PASSING. He said I will be assigned roles on the spot under extreme pressure in both Basic and Advanced. If I start bad - I will have till the end of camp for improvement - keep in mind he also said that there are cadets who have poor performances in both camps - AT THAT POINT THEY WILL STILL COMMISSION but they will most likely go NG or Reserve and not get Active Duty.

My question is WHAT IS THE SELECTION RATE for AROTC in both Basic and Advanced Camps and WHAT WILL MAKE CADETS GET SENT HOME? The recruiter made it sound like a piece of cake and that literally everyone (except for a significant small amount) will commission - it''s just a matter of NG/R or AD.

Thank you!

If you sign a contract through Army ROTC, you will commission upon completion of the program unless you either cannot complete a graduation requirement or you have a disciplinary issue such as a DUI or drug use. With those exceptions, there is no point where you would be arbitrarily denied or not selected for commissioning after contracting.

Your incentive to perform well is the Order of Merit List, which determines component (compete for active duty) and branching (job selection).

Hope this helps.

Yes sir. Thank you for your reply. I am glad to know that in this program, performance along with other things is key to success. I will struggle for sure I just want to know that I will contract soon. Thank you again sir.

2LT (Join to see) - They are correct that some cadets will not be selected for Active Duty, generally due to poor GPA, they are commissioned directly into the reserves or national guard. The only ones not to graduate, usually have a discipline issue like a DUI or they quit under amassing pressure. If you have a 3.0 GPA you'll be sitting well, anything less than that work on your GPA first and foremost.
