According to MarketWatch, the Chinese have officially overtaken the United States of America as the world's largest and number one economy for the first time since Ulysses S. Grant was president. It is so low that our birthrate's not sufficient to maintain our population....and population growth is one key factor in economic growth. Couple this with the largest number of Americans ever, not working in this country; expressed as the labor force participation rate. Ninety-three million Americans who are capable of working, are not -- and that number is growing. Because if we're not gonna give birth to replace our declining population, then we gotta find it somewhere. Somebody's gonna have to pay for this. We gotta get money from somewhere. Obamacare is creating part-time workers left and right. Obamacare -- and Obama period, the Democrat Party -- has created an ever-expanding dependency class. Hello illegal immigration policy that grants amnesty to millions. Our trajectory is unsustainable...

I would respectfully disagree with the idea that population growth is necessary for economic growth. If that were the case we would have seen massive economic decline following both World Wars when birthrates were low and we had over 400,000 war deaths. It is not population that drives economic growth, but rather efficiencies in production, and the ease with which innovations are created and implemented. We can overcome population declines through fewer government hurdles being placed between people and their creative forces.

Always good hearing from a fellow Michigander! Population growth is only one of many factors contributing to economic growth. On the one hand, labor shortages will slow the rate of economic growth in industrialized countries, but on the other hand, a high birthrate in a developing country may stress limited renewable resources. Governments in western and other industrialized countries like Japan are challenged to create effective immigration policies and programs to increase the birthrate, while countries with weaker economies pursue public health policies to reduce population growth. Globally, a smaller population presents multiple benefits from an ecological perspective, but some economies are challenged by low birthrates and are redirecting their need for unskilled labor to countries with higher populations and lower wage demands.

Well thank God we are the melting pot of the globe. It seems there are plenty of people that want to move to the United States. Not sure how incoming immigrants and their large families play into the numbers you posted. I'm gonna guess you are a Republican by your post. I will say the next administration better not be Democrats, and we had better see some change. We have avoided an all out Depression, but at what expense. Sometimes you need to hit a low, before we can see the light and rebuild. ObamaCare has so many negative ramifications that were unforeseen, it won't be long before even the Dem's say scrap it....Socialized medicine is coming whether we like it or not. We are one of the last hold outs.
