I have always been an artilleryman since I have been in the Army. In the artillery we are great at conducting certifications semi-annually for our artillerymen/women. During these certifications we test the Soldiers knowledge in their particular MOS and skill level. For example, a SSG is tested on skill level 1-3 tasks before he is allowed to shoot live in an FTX. However, I have seen that many times our support MOSs are left behind. For example, why don’t we take our 42As and conduct Warrior Task and Drills? Is this a lack of planning in the battalion? I am not sure what the answer is, but I do know that everyone needs to maintain his or her basic Soldier skills. I have witnessed many enlisted members of numerous MOSs who are not capable of conducting basic Soldier skills like reading a map. I am wondering what is everyones thought on this or if your organization has a great plan implemented that covers training on basic Soldiering skills.
