What would you all say are the most beneficial additional duties for NCOs?

Are you talking about at company level or for your development?

Company level UPL or any school to make you better for the company. Bigger picture Right now Army in need of Drill Sergeants and Recruiters shoot for E6 right now more doors will open Audie Murphy and maybe going Warrant Officer route.

This is a tangent. The worst additional duty for a 2LT is to be a Movement Officer. I got tagged to be OIC of an armor brigade railroading. I was blamed for a slow operation. How do I control a whole brigade of Officers, CSMs, and the soldiers who had the responsibility of proving requisite manpower for railroading their battalions vehicles? How could I ensure that all the battalions will execute in proper synchronization and sequence? I was an ignorant 2LT, but they expected too much from me.

I was the Movement Officer again when our armor company deployed to Kuwait. I had to synchronize with a 747 to take us to Kuwait. I coordinated for the smaller metal containers, did a packing list, and ensured the were blocked and braced. I also had to get some G-2 on Kuwait. It kind of sucked working that time because I had very little downtime before deploying.

Heed my advice about being a Movement Officer. If you have no choice in the matter, then you know what to expect.

I apologize about my mistakes. It’s 2400 now and I am tired.
