Just curious if anybody’s ever done it I’m being told with certain circumstances it can be done it’s a waiver and this is coming from a recruiter I’m aware of what an RE4 is... just looking for simple answers? Can it be done?

Hate to tell y'all that your wrong. I received an oth for misconduct re-4 out of the Navy..... Don't get this wrong it wasn't easy by any means however I got a waiver for it thru the national guard. Once completed wtc and ait I asked dropped a 368 paper (request to go to active duty) and the rest is history. Point is you will be told no a million times, if you want it that bad you will eventually meet a recruiter that will see your dedication and make the attempt.

Short answer: no.
Longer answer: I've never heard of anyone successfully getting a waiver.
Best answer: You'll get a lot of good responses here, but NONE will be as good as marching down to your local recruiter who will tell you what's what. Which, I'm afraid, is going to be no.

Cpl Colin Sperry - Ive heard some stuff happen. For example when I was in boot camp a shipmate told me they found out he had a felony for hitting an police officer that he lied about. The petty officer threw the record in the trash and he had a successful 4 years.

Greg, you're clearly offering false information. Perhaps you haven't heard of it happening but ss a Seaman, you lack the experience to offer up statements as facts. You're wrong, a person on this very forum is proof. I know many people who have done it. That said, it's hard to believe anything else you post as fact. Before you post something, make sure it's true and can be proved. If not, keep your assumptions to yourself, if you can't keep your assumptions to yourself and must chime in, at least let people know that with your limited experience you think....whatever it is you think.

PO1 Leanna R - Downvoted for needless insults.
1. I did not say no one ever gets one. I said 'I have never heard of anyone getting one'.
2. By all means, show me someone that's had an RE4 waved - I'll eat crow.
3. Calling into question everything I post because you disagree with one thing is...suspect at best.
4. You created an unverified account specifically to post this? (Because this is your ONLY activity). Now I doubt you served at all. You're probably the OP who didn't like my answer.

Greg, 9 months later, I'm told about your response, lol.
I must respond, The OP asked if anyone ever reenlisted with an RE4. You responded, "Short Answer: No." That prompted my first response. For some reason, I felt the need to click on this website when researching something about reenlistments. That post appeared. I followed it. Saw your response and thought to myself, he could be discouraging someone from joining our armed services. I'd hate to see our military lose out on a potentially good candidate. And that's why I said, if you don't truly know the facts, either do not respond or let readers know that you think...whatever you think.
In regards to my account being unverified, that's why (I followed a link on google search that led me here.) Usually, I just read and don't post (that's why there aren't a lot if any posts f/me here). If my lack of posts and unverified account are discrediting me, I guess I can look into doing it. But really, the meat of my posts speak for themselves.
I served with a guy, whose name is Dave Michnewicz, he had an RE4 from the Navy and it took him many years to get back in the Navy. He got a waiver and could only join the Army, which he did. He then waited until the end of his enlistment, got an honorable discharge from the Army and then re-enlisted in the Navy.
Also, my friend was a Navy recruiter and he said for a short time they were letting misconduct - drug abuse RE4s who got General Discharges from the Navy join the National Guard with waivers and then converting to active duty from there. He got a couple of Sailors that way. But that program is no longer available.
In regards to getting back in the military with an RE4. There are so many variables that I bet even some recruiters might be wrong bc the needs of the different services is changing all the time and there are so many factors that influence that answer that the question itself is kind of silly. Bc you'd have to know how many people the service you're looking at needs for a paygrade you're looking at and then you have to be willing to take the MOS that that service has available and that they're short on. And what was the reason for the RE4 and is it no longer valid, like maybe it was a "don't ask, don't tell" issue? That is no longer an issue as I understand it.
That's why I felt the need to respond to that one post, I got annoyed with the No answer bc it is so much more involved than that and posting that is just so negative.
Anyway, stay safe and well.
Leanna
