Got out of the Army in 2011 E5 19D. Looking to get into the AF TACP. Recruiter said I have to wait for the fiscal year. Kinda gave me the cold shoulder. Does anyone have info on this? Waiting for the fiscal year? Or can I get in now? Rank doesn't really matter.

TACP is only granted so many prior service slots. All the slots are filled this fiscal. Good luck next year. It’s a money allocation thing.

I second this. That is what I am on path for. ANG units, from what I can tell, have a yearly assessment. My chosen ANG is in March.

Air Force is very picky about taking prior service. TACP is also one of the AFSCs (Air Force for "MOS"). How long ago did you talk to the recruiter? It might also be wise to talk to a different AF recruiter.

I talked to him 3 weeks ago. I just have to put my packet together and pass the PAST and sit and wait. Hopefully the board sees that I used to work with JTAC

Working with one before gives zero credence to coming AIR FORCE.

How long have you been out haven’t heard of a SP5 since the 80’s early 90’s . Just as SMSGT said working with a JTAC / TACP holds no bearing. I also transitioned from Army to this job I was a prior communications specialist . TACP community is a small and demanding one with a very high standard come ready to be challenged mentally and physically and like they tell you when you first get there . The strong shall stand the week shall fall by the wayside . Good luck and hope your able to make the transition
