Can anyone explain the new process for STEP? More or less about the relation to being promotable and needing to attend NCOES and not being fully eligible due to needing to complete said NCOES and missing cut off due to not having it. Will you be promoted that next cut off regardless of what the points are at VS the amount of points you have? And does that change if your deployed and cannot attend due to being deployed?

So I am currently deployed/WAIS and came down on a class date but the unit I am attached to is doing a 4187 to differ until after the deployment. But I’m being told that while I am here missing out on promoting the last 3 months. That because I am deployed that once I complete ALC when I get back that no matter where points are I will still promote. But I cannot find it any where. I did find something similar but it states you would still have to meet or exceed cut of after competition of school. But again I’m being told due to deployment I’m “good”

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - That makes sense to me but I have someone here (a SNCO) telling me that "at HRC level" that there is guidance for soldiers deployed that miss cut off and need the NCOES. That upon return and after I pass the class I would get picked up no matter what points are at. and he says this based on the contacts he has at HRC and I am having a hard time trusting that due to not being able to verify it in Black & White.

Im not saying I don't trust the SNCO but it that old army saying don't believe anything unless you can verify it in Black & White yourself. so that you can ensure that you have the proper knowledge and either see what was said is true or be able to correct the misinformation.

You have access to the message explaining the exact issue. I have read it, but not well enough to cite specific verbiage. The gist of it was, CDRs have the ability to send SM to NCOES, regardless of OP TEMPO. So Deployment is no longer a justification for an NCO failure to complete the required schooling. As such, no exceptions are being made.

Im not truly onboard (not that any one asked) as I have seen way to many commanders who make decisions based on what is best for them, not the overall best decision for the larger unit, the force, the Army.

"I cant send Marquez to Senior leaders course, we are going to NTC that month, we wont look as good if we have a replacement do those duties"
Of course that CDR CAN send Marquez and allow his unit to work through a "man down" training scenario. That CDR is choosing to look good, vice provide training opportunities to both Marquez and his unit. NTC being the very place to go and learn about your strengths and weaknesses. A Safe environment to fail, or do less well, so you can plan and train to do better when it counts.

You will not get promoted unless you graduate the required NCOES. That's what is going to happen. Each branch has a order of merit list, let's hope you get orders soon.
