I received LASIK while on active duty so I can't really speak as to whether the reserves will hook you up, but the process may take longer to get through than 180 days. It is possible though. I think that I got through the whole process in about 180 days. I would jump on your command to get the paperwork started ASAP. As far as the "necessity" factor referenced in the other comment, certain MOSs take precedence over others when it comes to corrective eye surgery (or at least they did while I was in). Combat arms, pilots, and a handful of others will get shuffled to the front of the line and the process sped up.

CPT (Join to see) - No prob. Good luck. One of the greatest things that the Army ever did for me was give me my sight. I hope that you get to experience the same miracle.

CPT (Join to see) I had it done before it was legal to have it done. They used to do the radial keratotomy and scuff your eye and it was painful for those who had it. I had LASIK surgery back in 2003 at my own expense. I was 40 years old then. I am now 55 and I can still see 20-25 on my left eye and 20- 30 on my right eye. It is well worth it. Even put off a couple years having to wear reading glasses. I am on temporary active duty right now and I am getting a colonoscopy the day after tomorrow just before my orders are over. In where I live and where they have free medical care, they do not authorized colonoscopies because they only do stool samples and they don't pay for the extra expensive procedure of putting a camera in there and snipping off any polyps. A colonoscopy is only required after you hit age 50. Take advantage of all medical you can get done why you're still on active duty. Try to see about getting your dental issues squared away as well. When I was an active duty for operation Noble Eagle in 2003, I was able to get polymer fillings and have my old fillings removed. Today's new LASIK surgery does not require them to cut a flap in your eye and then use the laser. I think you can do it now without any surgery and it's just done by a laser. I had to have contacts on overnight and then see the doctor the couple days later. I had that my eyes closed for almost 24 hours. It may be a quick turnaround and you may be able to get back to work the next day. I'm sure you could probably have it done during one of your training holidays they have it seems every couple of weeks. Everywhere I go I seem to get a 10% discount or more on my food. See if you can get a military discount from a doctor who's done thousands of patients. I am sure you will run into people who have had LASIK surgery done and they will refer their doctor who did it to you.

I saw 20/20 on both eyes when I had it done back in August, 2003. It is well worth it! No more eye infections from Contact Lenses. No more inserts to worry about when you put on your mask and having to deal with those inserts when you're trying to shoot with the mask on. I don't miss that at all!

They don't pay for LASIK or PRK, but several posts have programs for it they offer. Priority may go Active Duty first. They usually require a certain amount of time left on active duty to receive it.
