Evidence has emerged, since his trial last year, that the two civilians on motorcycles that were charging 1LT Clint Lorance's position were, in fact, linked to terrorism. Additionally, it seems the government knew about the intelligence that showed these two men were linked to terrorism and might have been bomb makers and failed to present this while determining whether or not to proceed with a courts martial.

A few questions...

If the evidence is true, should 1LT Clint Lorance be granted clemency?

Are the rules of engagement appropriate or does it present an unnecessary level of risk to the war-fighter?

Given the RoE, does the revelation of this evidence even matter?

If the evidence is true, then any statements that came out of their mouths have no weight whatsoever. Absolute clemency!

SSG(P) (Join to see) Unfortunately, 1LT Lorance was convicted in a courts martial and sentenced already.

SSG(P) (Join to see) Right, I was. The problem is that the evidence existed at the time of the courts martial and was allegedly omitted.

SSgt (Join to see) Unjust Attorneys...makes me sick. Justice is a four letter word anymore. Reminds me of a story from Somalia...A Gunny was driving shotgun, quite literally...and some little Somali boy reached in and grabbed the sunglasses off of his face. The child got a shotgun shell in his chest....died of course. And the Gunny was being prosecuted for excessive use of force, or unlawful use of deadly force. Somalia was a HOLE...we should be there to provide assistance to the poor and needy, and that is it. It is literally a war-torn nation, and likely will never recover. I don't blame the Gunny, one will never know what went through his head. I had a little boy use a David and Goliath sling on me...thank God for Kevlar helmets, he would of struck my temple...

If they are 100% proved to have had ties to terrorist groups he should have all charges dropped and be cleared of any wrong doing. He should be reinstated and promoted if he had missed his due promotions if there are/were any.

If the evidence is true, I believe 1LT Lorance should be granted clemency. The RoE that were in place seem to have been a danger to 1LT Lorance and his troops.

Your third question, SSgt (Join to see), is probably key. Even if the evidence is true, 1LT Lorance could be SOL because of the RoE.

Here's more info on this case. It's from the side of 1LT Lorance. From what I read here, it seems he got a raw deal.

Scott, that website details a false and erroneous account of what happened. Of course coming from the defendant's side it's expected to be biased, but it contains outright lies (such as the being in constant comms with aerial support). Here's a much better run down of what transpired as told from a local (to the Bragg area) reporter who sat in on the trial.
