Am I entitled to wear the Vietnam Service ribbon?

I served from 1960s-1989. I was never sent in country Vietnam. I have seen conflicting information as to whether those of us who served then but not in country are entitled to wear the ribbon. I have seen many a hat with it on the heads of vets. I would not wish to wear it and discredit those brave men and women who served in country. Thanks.

No Msgt- The VSR is strictly for those who served in or closely supported (Thailand, Guam) in country.

I was sent from Clark AB PI to Guam TDY for 101 and 45 mins. The 5th TAC had a height finder Radar there that we were responsible for. The FAA controlled the Search Radar. So that's why I'm puzzled.

I would wonder about Thailand and Guam?
I spend time in Thailand and was never awarded the VSR. Realize I retired in 93 and so far as I'm concerned 'Graves Registration' will sort my uniform when I'm buried.
I simply think that board statement is wrong. There probably are other requirements. Mayhap be an USA vs USAF thing.

When I meet other vets, many ask about Vietnam. I tell them the truth. I never was in country. I will continue to do that and not wear that ribbon. I was just wondering about the ethics of it. After 30 years, I've learned to live without it. Thanks guys.
