Keeping in mind the ten economic indicators and your observations regarding the economy.

4.Vendor performance, slower deliveries diffusion index
5.Manufacturers' new orders, non defense capital goods

Clearly a question that requires a data-driven answer!

This survey from the United Nations pretty clearly shows the U.S. economy has improved in almost every way since 2004. I'm not sure, though, because your question is posed as "Has the economy improved for Americans over the last decade?" which is different than "Has the U.S. economy improved over the last decade." Why'd you pose the question one way versus the other?

I posed it that way because I was asking about how the economy has affected everyday Americans. You see, those who benefit from telling us the economy is doing great will point to the stock market and it's all-time highs, while ignoring the fact that the stock-market is doing so well because corporations have scaled back on expenses, like labor, inventory and surpluses. Having fewer products means prices remain higher. Corporations aren't making more profits through increased production, but through efficiencies, and because instead of bringing trillions of foreign earned dollars back home they are leaving it over-seas to avoid paying the world's highest corporate income tax on-top of the taxes they already paid in the foreign countries in which the money was made. So, while corporations ARE making good profits, our unemployment rate has remained high, and only appears to be gaining ground because the dept of labor is no longer tracking those who have stopped looking. Additionally, one of the economic indicators is new unemployment claims. Is there any doubt that up to 2 years of Unemployment extensions at the Federal level might have an effect on new jobless claims?
So, while some corporations are doing well, income for the average American is down, and many staple prices are UP. Of course the government has removed some key commodities from the factoring of inflation such as energy costs which make inflation sound low, while it is actually increasing. Again, if one simply looks at the published metrics of inflation one would miss this factor.

For the Corporations who've trimmed down and are producing with less, for the Corporations that have managed to secure for themselves great sums of Federal money for political pet-projects, for many of the country's wealthiest who can afford to invest in the stock market, the economy is doing wonderfully.

For average Americans, who's average wages have decreased, while the price of staple commodities like coffee, meat, and energy are largely increasing, while Unemployment is still high, for the average American, the economy is not so rosy. For the average American who invests their funds that must remain more liquid, in CD's Treasuries, and bank accounts bearing miniscule interest, things aren't going nearly as well.

MAJ (Join to see) Regarding the anti-Semitic, socialist-centric UN, I give their studies and rankings little stock, as it is their affiliated WHO that still ranks the US health care system #37 in spite of our stellar cancer survival rates, our unparalleled contribution to new drugs, medical equipment and ground-breaking medical procedures. We are ranked #37 because we simply aren't socialist enough for them. There is also little doubt that Israel would have ceased to exist, likely as the result of another Holocaust were it not for OUR veto power at the UN. Just a few observations regarding the UN.
