I was recently denied an assignment due to lack of support at the installation for an EFMP dependent. It was an OCONUS assignment so I can understand the logic, but it made me wonder about the potential for other assignments and what might be “EFMP friendly” so to speak. Without getting into details such as job specifics and individual unit missions, does anyone have any experience or insight in this area? Any recommendations for a “wish list”? I’m new to the MOS so I don’t really know the likely locations yet.

What exactly is your question? Mostly what I got out of that was "where can I go, given undefined restrictions?"
It depends on your EFMP reason and the base you are requesting.

Given the fact that the specifics are medical and confidential, I obviously can’t post them to this site. I’m not requesting anything. HRC is assigning. My question is whether anyone else on this site is in the same MOS and also has a medical EFMP dependent. Based on that I was curious as to their general exeperiences when it came to assignments. Restricted to CONUS, etc. Thanks for your responses. SFC Nuckols your input was generally what I was asking for.

There are two types of EFMP, medical and educational. Being that your MOS can go to almost anywhere and EFMP doesn't care about your job or availability, your situation isn't unique to 35L.
The more rare, or the more specialized your medical EFMP, the harder it is to move. If your dependent requires a specialist you will most likely find yourself locked into one large base and doing dependent restricted tours and returning to your homebase in order to reset your dwell time. Accept the fact that at some point in your career you may need to be apart from your family while you are instructing or doing some type of career enhancing or broadening assignment. If you plan for that, you can arrange that it is some type of dependent restricted tour such as NATO assignment. Otherwise you may find yourself as an instructor for several years away from your family.

I don’t mind being away as long as needs are met. I’m more trying to set up some expectation management. Thank you, SFC Boyd.

I recommend one of the major installations as they are going to have the facilities to support many of the EFMP concerns.

Thanks MSG (Join to see). That’s more or less what I was wondering.

Why would you post an unhelpful, single word response to a year old post?
