I have been told different stories and don't know who is correct. And if you receive social security disability do you need to have them take out medicare?

Yes...to all your included questions. You may receive SSDI, VA disability compensation at the same time and once you get on SSDI, you must take Medicare Part B. On this issue, failure to do so can result in you being assesses a premium penalty of 10% premium increase per year for every year you are/were eligible and did not sign up for it.

If you have Tricare or other Federal Health insurance you must take Medicare B. If you use only the VA or private health insurance, you have the option to decline part B

You do indeed have the option to decline. I hope without it you don't ever end up in a civilian hospital.

SSgt Jim Gilmore - I don't have it, and I don't need it. The Federal government has no business forcing me to purchase something I don't want. My private health insurance does me just fine.

CPL Kayla Mosely - This is how I look at it. The VA compensates you for depreciated mind or body. SSD compensates you for not being able to work.
