Had an interesting situation come up today at work - the Major I was working with had to take some equipment out to one of the jets. When he came back he was holding what appeared to be a brush-ice scraper combo with no scraper. He then posed the following question: How much work do you suppose it would take to get a new ice scraper?
After the question, he explained the situation. The scraper in the GOV was broken so he went to Vehicle Ops to see if they could replace it. He was told that they aren't really responsible for vehicles that the squadron "owns" and we would have to talk to our Vehicle Control Officer to see about getting a new one. We then discussed at length the hoops, red tape and queep that would likely be required to get a new $2 ice scraper, culminating in the supposition that it would take an O-6 to finally say "Just buy the f**king thing already!"

October we have 10 new 50 in flat screens.....no paper, pens or ice scrapers....they were not high enough on the Wing's unfunded list for "fallout money."

Reminds me of being the LTs driver, and having no windshield washer fluid in my assigned Humvee. After arguing with maintenance about it, and being told that water worked just fine, I went down to a nearby gas station and bought a gallon. I had to guard that gallon fiercely, as every other driver in the Company wanted washer fluid too.
