I turned 18 a month and a half before starting basic training as a 19D on August 7, 1990. I was 18.5 at the start of the war.
As "low man on the totem pole", I was picked one night during a skud attack to take my mask off while everyone observed me. fun times.

I joined when I was still 17 and was 17 when it started. I too was "picked" for un masking procedures. I guess we were both VIPs

Being CBRN (NBC) by trade I'd hope you had some competent people who actually did tests on the air before they made you unmask. Glad you and MSG (Join to see) seem to be okay.

I deployed to the Gulf War Nov 1990 - May 1991. I turned 18 on Dec 25th 1990. US Army (was ADA at the time out of Fort Bliss).
