When I went to boot camp we had one guy shoot over 245 on the rifle range. They said he would be a candidate for sniper school. Don't you have to have some skill to start with or do they think they can train anybody?

Sniper school requires the support of the chain of command, and yes the COC determines who they nominate on many qualifiers. I assure qualms in basic do not get you there. I am sure the DI’s were just commenting on the Soldiers raw ability. Every BT has a Soldier that can shoot like that. Thanks for your service.

To go to sniper school, you'll have to be an 11B or 19D... then transfer into a sniper section. Once you have the para/line number, it's just a matter of time (and money) until they send you to the school to get fully certified for your duty position. Best of luck!

Are you willing to pay the cost of getting to Sniper School?
You'll have to become an 11B just to be eligible. Other MOS's are eligible too, but you can go to Ranger School and Reclass to 11B after. All this will require more than 18 months and a commitment longer than that.
