Would an exception to policy for promotion apply for soldiers stationed in Korea?

Specifically looking at next years SFC board. If i am in Korea with an estimated rotation date in Oct / Nov and the board posts results in July. Would they tell me I have to wait to get back stateside to attend SLC? Or grant me an exception to policy since it would really make no sense to send me all the way back to the states with a really close PCS date?

As I recall, the rule is that you must be within 6 months of DEROS to go to NCOES, so they will just make you wait till you get stateside. If you are lucky, you may be able to get it TDY enroute. I don't remember the name of the MILPER or ALARACT that stated it, but it was a common issue for my guys when I was OCONUS just a few months ago.

That's because it's for deployment. You said you're stationed in Korea, not on a deployment

Correct, but with as many people that go up for the board and get selected at overseas locations (Germany, Japan, Korea) I imagine it is just as much if not more of a nightmarish backlog for those stationed OCONUS.

From the guys I know that are currently stationed in Germany still there weren't any special considerations given for NCOES. They still had to wait to get slotted for SLC in accordance with their sequence number by HRC.
What would make sense is to send those folks that are stationed OCONUS to these NG courses that are only a month long or so and everyone in CONUS or at least as much as possible to the active duty course. Instead they just slot you where ever you land, for example I'm stationed on Benning currently and rather than sending me to the M-SLC course here I'm going to the Minnesota NG course.
