I know that there are many people on Rally Point with far more extensive knowledge of the American Civil War than myself. I read, what I consider this piece of trivia, about the number of battles a couple of months ago. The book reference and the American Civil War are certainly not trivial topics. I expect that answers are likely to differ based on the sources that are used and what some people probably consider the major battles for this conflict.

Please share the citation for your answer so that other readers interested in this topic have a place to look for more information.

CPT (Join to see) That sounds as if you are requesting RP’ers to do “homework”. Honeydew work is enough work for most of us.

I dunno, CSM Hayden. Some of these RP'ers know their stuff! I like to see the number of views more than anything.

Once I noticed your request for ‘citations’, I knew you were flogging a dead horse.

CSM Charles Hayden - I only asked for citations because I want to read about this conflict, but I totally understand your point!

Jeff Hummel specializes in Economic History of the United States. He documents in his book Emancipating Slaves, Enslaving Freemen, that 55 of the 60 major American Civil War battles were fought by Generals that graduated from West Point.

I found this book thought provoking and informative.

The Civil War: A Narrative by Shelby Foote is a three volume set that covers military and political. If anybody is interested, it is highly recommended. Great read.
