I've researched AR 600-8-22, and cannot find any MILPERS on the OIR award (computer not cooperating with HRC), and I am still a little confused with what I've found in 600-8-22. So please, if anyone could, answer me this:

If someone is deployed to Kuwait or any other qualifying areas for the GWOTEM and meets the respective amount of days, and then ends up being moved to Iraq where they spend the rest of the deployment or even a couple months which would also make them eligible for the OIR Campaign ribbon, can the solider be awarded both? If not, why? And if so, can they both be worn at the same time?

Thank you all for your help.

So my interpretation of that sir is if an individual serves in OEF at Kuwait they will get the GWOTEM, and then during the same deployment they serve in OIR in Iraq, they will get the IRCM?

That’s the only part I’m confused about, because the regulation isn’t quite black and white about serving under two different operations during the same mobilization.

SGT (Join to see) - "c. Effective 30 March 2016, the GWOTEM is no longer authorized to be awarded for service in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Soldiers serving in Iraq and/or Syria are only authorized the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal (IRCM) after this date. The GWOTEM is authorized for direct support deployments, such as Kuwait or Qatar. See list above."

If you were just transiting Kuwait to get to Iraq/Syria, then You would just merit the IRCM. If you served in both for 30 days continuous or 60 days non continuous.

What is the date on AR600-8-22 you are working from?

LTC Jason Mackay I’ve read the updated one, but I don’t see anything in there about i I’ve read the updated one, but I don’t see anything in there about when you have two separate orders for two separate operations. That’s where my confusion lies. I understand you cannot receive the expeditionary medal in conjunction with the inherent resolve, but my interpretation as you can receive the expeditionary under operation enduring freedom orders with qualifying service in a qualifying country, and then transitioning into a qualifying country that falls under inherent resolve with inherent resolve orders would work for you for the IRCM ribbon as well.

SGT (Join to see) - if you meet the qualifying requirements for both you are authorized both. My recommendation is to send in the question to HRCs Award page and have them update the FAQ if you are unsure.

What will be important is the date ranges you were where. As you can see the guidance changed over time.

The Expeditionary medal isn't authorized for OIR. There was a milper message that redefined the only dates that qualify for the GWOTEM and I want to say it ends in 06 or something. You also cannot be awarded two campaign medals for the same period of time regardless.

And as if right now if you look at ARCENTs benifets by country list, the GWOTEM is still authorized for Kuwait. But my more defined question is this;

Deployed to Kuwait with OEF orders earns you the GWOTEM.

Moved to Iraq under OIR orders gives you the OIR Campain.

They are two separate operations, in two different AO’s, so we should be allowed both right?
