AF GTC holders will be getting a new card on their next re-issue that now has the "chip and pin" that is common globally just now hitting stride here in the states.

As someone who goes TDY once a month, I doubt this new card will fix the system. The credit card itself is not the problem, it is the wonderful DTS system that drives me insane monthly.
The only benefit that I see to this new card, is it will hopefully prevent fraud and identity theft, but I'm not sure how many problems the military has had with the GTC and fraud/identity theft.

See, I have never had any issues with DTS. Then again, I was previously a RA and approval authority so that might make a difference.

The Department of the Navy notified us that our cards would start rolling out around early Feb, and of course, I'll be on travel using my "old" card at that time *groan*
With regard to DTS, it can be a real pain, but my personal experience is the bureaucracy that my organization puts into place when you have to file a trip plan, justification, and how you(the traveler) intend to save the government money while on travel.

Wow, MSgt Michael Durkee, all that stuff (outside of the saving part) should be apparent in the DTS process. Typical government to make you do the same thing multiple times.

That's right, you would think so. Having used DTS while Active Duty Air Force and using it now as a Navy Civilian - it almost doesn't feel like the same system. The list of substantiating records attached before travel is even authorized is mind boggling, then upon return having to upload more substantiating documents to explain how you followed through with your course of action to save government funds. Never a dull moment :D
