I'm looking into PSYOPS Specialist as a potential MOS, but what information I can find is minimal. So I have a few questions in that regard, based on what information the recruiter gave me, I'm under the impression that PSYOPS is a Special Operations Force, however, you can only enter as a civilian through the reserves, so how does this work? The information I could find on things like training after basic are a bit confusing, and I don't know if this information is relevant to people entering as a civilian, or people who were active duty and volunteered for the training. Can someone shed some light on what someone who plans on enlisting in PSYOPS would go through?

Reserve PSYOP is not SOF - completely different pipeline and scope. You have two options to become a 37F on the SOF side of the house. Enlist as whatever MOS, then attend assessment and selection OR enlist as a 37X.

Reserve PSYOP = basic training, AIT, then go home/to your reserve unit

Active duty PSYOP = assessment and selection, airborne school, basic leaders course, qualification course (language, MOS, etc), then assignment to a SOF unit. (This "pipeline" can differ depending on your personal experience - aka already airborne qualified or already attended basic leaders course)

If you choose the 37X program and you make it all the way through you will have 48 college credit hours. You can then utilize one years worth of tuition assistance to finish an associates degree, and ARSOF has a program that you can follow that networks through different schools and will ultimately lead you to a Master's Degree if you desire it (think numerous years of college courses as tuition assistance is capped at 16 credit hours per year).

There is a tremendous amount of information that you should know and understand before becoming a reservist or active duty in this career field. Feel free to send me a private message and I will happily give you as much relevant information as I can so you can make the decision that is best for you.

I'll take all the info I can get, not a big fan of making uniformed decisions so I'd like to understand as much about this MOS as possible.

I forgot to mention it an hour ago, but I don't think that my account has the permissions to use the connect feature, would you mind adding me to your contact list so we can talk?

SGT (Join to see) Enter "PSYOPS" in the Search Bar above, hit enter, and then click on "Answers". You will find a number of Posts that deal with PSYOPS.

You go to basic (ft benning) 10 weeks, then to AIT at ft Bragg 10 weeks. You won’t attend the selection process through the reserves.

My current unit isn’t on active jump status, so it depends. If you can get the option to go to airborne take it. The only sure way to get into it is if you get it in your contract at meps. SGT (Join to see)
