I am about to graduate AIT and plan to PPM/DITY. It apparently my drill sergeants and Transportation department is giving me some different information.. So I am trying to figure out through here. I am moving from Virginia to Texas and need to rent a truck and dolly which costs about 1000 dollars. I do not have much stuff... so it is only about 500-600 pounds.
1. Is it worth doing DITY? Apparently I will lose 400 dollars for moving by myself however I need to use my bed and everything as soon as I move to my new station. Transportation department said it will take up to 1 month
2. As I know of, I need to weigh my truck twice, once emptied and once loaded. Does it supposed to be one in departing place and one in arriving place? Or is it okay to check both weight at the same place? does the order matter ( loaded->emptied, emptied ->loaded)
3. Is rented truck reimbursable? Transportation department said it is not reimbursable and my drill sergeant said it is reimbursable.
Thank you for your big help in advance.

1. Is it worth doing? The government will only reimburse you up to what it would cost them to move you. Do the calculations of its worth it to you. The more stuff you acquire, the less it feels worth it when you spend three days loading a truck and some of your stuff breaks.
You need a bed, get an air mattress or a futon. It will be the same problem every time you move.
You're authorized Unaccompanied Baggage which is a smaller load of a portion of your stuff that flies and usually arrives very quickly. Basically, it's your pots and pans and the things you need to survive till your furniture arrives. It's supposed to be smaller items. My bed is a memory foam, so they could have folded that and sent it UA. See if you can send your bed that way.
2. You have to weigh your truck empty and full. Old rules were it had to be weighed at start and stop locations, but that's no longer the case. You can weigh it anywhere.
3. The rental and other things are reimburseable up to a certain price point. Transportation will discuss the maximum they will pay you to move. It's based on your weight limit authorized, how much weight you'll take, and how far you're moving. Anything not specifically covered is claimable on your taxes. To he exact, the truck itself is not reimburseable, you're simply given a certain amount of money for the amount of weight you move. Listen to transportation, they're the ones who pay you, not your drill Sergeant.
