Any support for Values, Military Bearing, and Professional Appearance?

I was bored this weekend and spent a little time browsing Rally Point. I am a little surprised at the postings of some NCOs and Officers on here. I would advise you not to post any comments here that you would not want your subordinates or your superiors to view. You will lose your credibility with both, and any comments displaying a lack of values made by NCOs and Officers could and should be reflected on your Evaluation Reports. I hope that there is some support out there for this opinion.

1SG, you make a very valid point. Thank you for posting this very important reminder. I always remind my son and daughter about using caution when posting on social media (e.g., Facebook) because it can be adverse to future employment, etc. Thanks again.

You think that was bad - Marine basic seemed to last forever. But, if you get into a career (or work) that you really enjoy - time flies. My 32 years seem to have gone by in the blink of an eye (of course looking back it always seems that way about anything). But the main point of the thread is especially important - values, military bearing and professional appearence. Every branch of the military needs to make sure these standards are kept at the top of their minds at all times. With the influx of our electronic age everyone needs to keep OPSEC, COMSEC, COMPSEC, ect. in mind at all times when putting anything out on the global net - our enemies are always looking for the little bits and pieces - so they can put together tthe big picture.

The beauty about the military is taking advantage of all the wonderful opportunities that it offers. A1C Murray, I agree with the above comments. We ALL started somewhere, mostly E1 or E2. It takes time to progress up but that's the only way to go, unless one messes up. Keep your head, look forward and seek the advice of those who came before you. Trust me, WE greatly desire for OUR military to improve.

Especially when there are Officers and NCOs within my unit that I'm connected to and can easily view all of my activity through my profile.</div><div><br></div><div>For reference, I use the DoD's advice on social media and act/speak as if I was in person. While I can't stand at parade rest, I can still properly address every person here with the necessary respect and maintain military bearing.</div>

I second that. Here's a question: Is it right to have different opinions based on whom you're speaking to in the service? I tend to be frank (if respectful) in my statements to seniors, peers, and subordinates and my message stays the same.
I did receive some professional mentoring for things I've said and found that I had to change myself in response to that.
On that note: Everybody, please call me out on things you think I shouldn't say the way I do. Chances are I have been doing that or am about to, so a warning is always appreciated.

You should not change your opinions based on the audience. Perhaps the delivery should change, but you shouldn't "waffle". Right is right and wrong is wrong.

1SG, very well said. I like to tell people "I will always tell you the truth, you may not like what you hear, however, that doesn't make it any less true." right is always right and wrong is always and between they shall never meet.
