How can I better my chances of getting deployed?

Without getting into OPSEC, I am having a very hard time finding a deployment. I have used TWO Databases to see what is available, and it's not much. I would literally do anything to deploy. What can increase my chances at getting to deploy? Any advice helps.

Go Special Operations...deployments come up more often than most people would like...

SSG (Join to see) just make sure being gone, typically once a year is really what you want...its not all its cracked up to be these days

Being national guard may be a little difficult, but make sure your chain of command has you down on their volunteer lists. Depending on the battle rhythm, there may be units needing your MOS. I would recommend considering a transfer to the USAR or active component as well.

I started in the IL guard and other than special units, deployments aren't going to happen. Even though I still live in Chicago area, I ended up in the PA guard and got a deployment by accident. It's all about how much funding a state has. The experience of their units is a big point. My current unit has deployed about 5-6 times since 2000, and has asked for volunteers another 2-3 times. I liked the 33rd while I was there but they don't get missions

If you want a deployment in the guard, it seems like you have to IST to PA, UT, TX, or OK

I know what you mean. I hear IN, MS, CA, OH, and IA get a good bit too. I still make the drive to look out for my guys. One day I tend to think I'll reel it closer to home when those guys get out. You're close to IN so I'd give them a look. They're using guard more and more so if you hang around I'm sure something is bound to come your way
