More government interference into private lives = highly dislike. It's none of their business what you do on your private time so long as it does not interfere with the good order and discipline of the unit. The ACLU should have some fun with this one.

I'll admit to not having read the reg, but it sounds like they are drawing a line between NCO and Junior Enlisted. Here's a question: what about Corporals? Can they date other NCOs (SGTs and above)? Can they date other Enlisted (E4s in particular)?
If they aren't harming the unit/service, should I have to care?
In general I think we really need to stop and remember "the spirit of the regulation" and let it govern instead of making the "letter of the law" cover every potential negative situation. I believe we need to quit making big solutions to small problems. I should trademark that phrase. I have a feeling in this "new fiscally constrained environment" it is going to catch on.

Sir, SFC Chris Smith hit the nail on the head. So now a SPC(P) cannot have a relationship with a CPL. Even if that SPC(P) is Active Duty and the CPL is National Guard or Reserves.
However, a brand new 21 year old SGT can date a SGM. While it may not be considered good form, if they aren't in the same formation (different brigades of the same division would likely be the closest degree of separation), it's totally legal.

One of the biggest problems I'm seeing is the lack of publicity this significant change has received. Believe it or not, I don't reference AR 600-20 that often.
When the prohibitions on officer/enlisted relationships were imposed in 1999, I was formally briefed with my entire company. That happened prior to the effective date. I've seen nothing like that so far for the current policy.
