I'm referring to the shirt and belt being Tan 499 and the boots being coyote brown.

What are you talking about. The new uniform consists of coyote brown shirt, belt, and boots. There has been some mix and match during transition, but last I saw, as long as the same color was used for boots/belt /shirt combo, you could still use the old style with the OCP until the official wear out date.

So the Shirt and belt is tan 499 while the boots are coyote brown.

SSG (Join to see) that is correct. You can still wear the sand belt and shirt with tan boots during the transition period. But mandatory possession is Oct 2019. (FY20). Most troops should have already purchased at least a couple full sets through clothing allowance, by now. There are a few AR/NG units still being fielded the new stuff, though

I'm sorry, I know the belt and t-shirt are tan 499, my question is why not just match the boots, shirt and belt?

I imagine it has to do with tan 499 die working better on some fabrics, and the coyote brown dye working better on the boot materials.

I’ve wondered the same thing. Some people don’t even realize that there’s a difference. Our undershirt, belt, and parts ECWCS gear are tan 499 but our boots and absolutely nothing else are coyote 498. There is no good reason for the confusion but that’s the military.

I have actually seen SMA Dailey wearing a coyote undershirt on television so I don’t think the issue is recognized by many.
