In the old WW2 barracks back in the 70's, the state line passed right thru my room. Off post, you can live either place, unless you're barracks living, then you're gonna be where the barracks is.

There's plenty to do at Campbell, both family activities and things you can do on your own. Plenty of historical places to visit, and the area continues to grow and grow. I've honestly though of relocating to the Clarksville area just because it's so much fun and a nice place to live.

Also, there'll be an inner feeling of pride that comes from serving with the 101st. It's a great opportunity to do the things to make your career better, and be enthused about it.

There is a ton to do both on and off post. Nashville is 40 minutes away, Bowling Green a little farther, as well as Land Between the Lakes. The post is nice and traffic isn't bad. Depending on what unit you are assigned really changes how you will enjoy the 101st. Just stay out of trouble and you'll have a good time.

OK so for things to do, I can cover that much, if you have a car.........
1. Kentucky Derby in Louisville (horse race).
2. Preakness in Lexington, KY (another famous horse race)
3. Mammoth Cave........the underground 5 miler, even if your in the Army and PT each day, you will feel it the next day.
4. Makers Mark Whiskey Distillery Tour -2 to 3 hour drive but worth it.
5. National Corvette Museum (Bowling Green, KY).........do this with Mamoth Cave outing.
6. Bardstown, KY - Do this with Burbon tour or seperately and include Kentucky Railway Museum train ride. My Old Kentucky Home.
7. Loretta Lynns Ranch.......you can google, yeah she is old but also historic, her first husband was in the Army.
8. Nashville - Printers Alley.........not sure if this is still around but used to be fairly nice clubs.
9. Paddlewheel Cruise on Cumberland River in Nashville. Overpriced a little but OK.
10. Week of Eagles on Fort Campell......annual reunion of 101st Airborne. See the Airfield Display on the first Saturday of the Week of Eagles week, definitely see the air show as well on same Saturday.
11. Chicago is only a 6 hour drive to the North, numerous things to do there here is a quick sampler of really cool family things to do in Chicago: Museum of Science and Industry......this will take 6 hours min. Alder Planitarium - 2-3 hours, Acquarium, 2 hours. Navy Pier 2 hours, they have amusement park rides. Water Tower Place - shopping near famous North Ave Water Tower. Willis Tower - formerly the Sears Tower, they have a glass floor ledge you can walk out on at the 105th floor. Chicago is very expensive if you visit there plan on spending the night and paying for parking at the hotel. Probably cheaper to take a bus then cab to hotel. Then cabs to attractions.
12. Memphis, TN 3-4 hour drive - Elvis and Graceland, Try their famous Pork BBQ and try to go to a Blues area (Beale Street sticks in my mind for some reason).
13. Land Between the Lakes - Large lake and recreation area with hiking trails if you want to take family camping (2 hour drive .....I think).
14. Fort Knox, KY - South of Louisville........not a whole lot to see there but in a fairly scenic area.
Probably more, just did this list off the top of my head.

SPC (Join to see) - No problem also another option going to Chicago I forgot to mention that keeps you out of traffic and steep parking fees. Park your car at the South Bend Airport and take the train in or use one of the closer in park and ride lots. South Shore Line tickets are cheap and Millineium station in Chicago is walking distance to Navy Pier, it is a subway station and is completely underground, there is not much if any of a above ground station (not much of an issue). Don't use Gary Ind train station or stations closer in than Gary.........they are not all that safe to park at. Anyways another option. Here is the schedules and map..... Dune Park station is OK, that is a large state park of Sand Dunes, I don't think they have overnight parking. Safest is the Airport I think. About a 2-3 hour ride in because the train stops everywhere.

Check out the statues by E.T. Wickham (No known relation to MG Wickham who was once CG of the 101st) They were created from concrete, and while I was still there, were located out in the boonies, hard to find and mainly just a legend. They've now been relocated for the most part, and are much easier to find. There are still some located in their original location, but the road has been changed from a gravel road in the woods to a paved two lane highway. It takes away some of the mystique, but are still worth checking out.
