How can I prep for Airborne School? What's the formation run pace? Is 8:30-9:00 per mile accurate?

I have the opportunity to go to Airborne school and I plan on taking it. I'm trying to set up a plan of action to prepare. What should I expect? Also what's the formation run pace? I read 8:30-9:00 is that accurate?

Work on being able to due at least 4 miles in 36 minutes. Along getting accustomed to having your ACH on in uniform while you fun to include a canteen. Also start knocking out pull ups at least 20 a day. Other than that always remember to keep your feet/knees together, knees partially bent, elbows tucked and chin on chest and you'll be fine.

Make sure whatever job you want after the military doesn't require a good back or set of knees. Other than that have fun spending 3 weeks learning how to fall correctly and causing needless injury to yourself all in the name of a shiny pin, a funny hat, and an extra $150/mo

Spent most of my 21 years on active jump status. Ended up with 130 logged static line jumps and a Master Parachutist badge. The only injury I ever had was a bruised hip from an unseen object on the ground. Oh, and I DID pull a muscle in my back from the opening shock of the parachute, but that was out of a C5 w/full combat equipment (a Galaxy can only fly so slow). Shoot, I even landed on PAVEMENT once (some airshow south of Bragg somewhere). Never had any injuries otherwise. And I was and still am VERY proud to wear the Maroon Beret and the Silver Wings. Guess we’re not shooting on the same range, huh...

SFC Matt Creath guess not. Was i proud of my wings and beret? Absolutely. Was i proud of my Stetson and spurs? You bet. Until i realized that airborne and cav units hand out those traditions (aside from wings) like fucking Halloween candy. You're not "distinctive" if EVERYONE has it whether they earned it or not.

DEFINITELY agree with your last statement. Been retired since ‘01. I saw some of that going on once in a while, but from what you’re telling me, it’s gotten worse. Sad to hear.SGT Scott Henderson
