Iraq commitment medal
This medal, issued by Iraq, has apparently been awarded to one person: Vice President Joe Biden. Last I heard, it was being considered by DoD in early 2014. I was hoping that SECDEF Hagel's medals and decorations review would include this, but I've heard nothing as yet. Does anybody know anything about the status of this medal?

Agreed. What an insult this is to the Government of Iraq. They create a medal and we refuse to recognize and authorize it. The same thing goes for the Afghan Medal. Either we refuse foreign awards for those who served in foreign wars or recognize them. This strange middle ground where some countries awards are immediately accepted and others are only awarded to politicians is disrespectful to the granting country and those soldiers who served in that location.

I was just overseas and the soldiers of the Iraqi Army are insulted that we are not yet wearing their award but wear the Kuwait medal, the Afghan Medal, the Saudi Medal, etc etc. This should be someone’s priority after over a decade of war and it should be issued or recind the other awards out of respect for our now ally, Iraq.

CPT (Join to see) we accepted the Kuwait liberation medal. We accepted the Saudi freedom medal as we did in Vietnam, Korea, Etc etc. Why don’t we accept the Iraq Commitment Medal? Why is that the sole example of a medal from the host nation that America refused ? My Iraqi partners aka our Allies state they feel insulted. What’s your answer then? Is there an answer. Very professional polite answer as well.

CPT (Join to see) I do not need another Medal. I am thinking of the message this sends to the men I partner with in Iraq.

I realize this is an old conversation but for anyone interested, there's more up to date info, including a congressional response to a constituent on this issue here: https://www.facebook.com/Iraq-Commitment-Medal [login to see] 57958/

I don't believe Vietnam created the Vietnamese medals that our troops were awarded for that conflict, incidentally, yet they still got awarded.

Thanks for sharing that, Top. I appreciate that professional response. Hopefully the Trump team will make this a reality, although I certainly understand the political climate in which such a decision will be rendered.

Perhaps our reinvolvement in Iraq will get the ball rolling on this again?
