Do I buy the maroon beret or will they issue it to me when I get to the 173rd?

I graduated airborne school a few years ago but didn’t go to an airborne unit after. I’ve just come in orders for 173rd. Do I buy the maroon beret or do they issue it to you when you get there?

Buy a beret that has a cloth liner, not the military issue leather liner. Make sure you shave the inside AND the outside prior to shaping it.

You'll get one issued to you, but if it is within your budget and character -- get the beret and unit insignia and show up as the high speed low drag soldier that you are. Good Luck and enjoy your assignment -- Airborne All the Way!

Just to add to the CSMs comment, the flash on the beret is specific to the Battalion you are assigned to.
