oconus transfer to conus surgery I just found out that I need surgery on my knee and am currently stationed overseas in Korea. To be honest I do not feel comfortable getting surgery where I am currently stationed due to the circumstances and the amount of medical expertise here. I was reading online about medical tdy what it states that they would be able to send me to my home town to get the surgery does anyone know the process on this? I've been fighting back and forth for 7-8 months just to get them to even properly asses me and figure out what is even wrong with me. Any help or advice is appreciated TIA.

You would have to be referred off post. It's not cost effective to just send everyone to any place they want to go. There needs to be need for you to be referred away from where you are, for instance the area you are lacks the specialists to perform your surgery. Because of your location, if there is a lack of specialists, you'll be sent to Tripler in Hawaii on medical TDY for your surgery.
Alternately, you could just wait till you're stateside to continue treatment.

Waiting until i go stateside won't be an option since I am ETSing from korea in about a year and a half. From what ortho has told me there is only 1 qualified physician here in korea to do the surgery thats what makes me nervous the most.

SPC (Join to see) then do the smart thing and stay in the Army until your surgery is complete. You are authorized to extend for medical treatment. Or you could extend to travel back to the US and get your surgery there.
Don't make the mistake of jumping out of the Army while still needing medical treatment, even more if that leads to a medical separation or disability that you would otherwise throw away by ETSing

Medical TDY is coordinated through the treatment facility. So if the medical treatment facility has the capability you are not going to be sent TDY.

So if I am understanding correctly, essentially I do not have a choice on who is to be my surgeon the only choice I have is to get the surgery done or not?

Please refrain from commenting on this post if you have no positive advice to give pertaining to my current situation I may not be a medical professional but I am still a human and do have the right to say who does or does not perform corrective/surgical procedures on my body. Thx
