Where can I find information on promoting out of a unit?

Can anyone give me any additional information on promoting out of a unit? Looking for any information other than "4187". Google has turned up only a couple posts for RC that are almost 4 years old.
BLUF, reported to the unit, promoted within 3 weeks of arrival, the unit does not have SL positions in my MOS, discussed with CSM for potential transfer after deployment.

WO1 (Join to see) have you checked FMSWEB to verify that? It would be very weird that there would be E5 and E7 positions within a Brigade, but no E6 slots.
If there are no authorizations within your Brigade, the Division strength manager can move you. In the unlikely event that there are no positions in your division you can approach your branch manager for an on post PCS.

I did do my research on the matter, with FMSweb, and correct, there are no 3O positions. I found it odd, as every other brigade in 4ID has 1, and HHBn has 2.
But thank you for that additional info, I did not know the Division strength manager could do that.

You can also search for positions authorized for a specific FY on ACT (Army Career Tracker). You can specify your search by active vs reserve, enlisted vs commissioned, CMF, grade, etc. It is a great tool to negotiate with your branch manager. ASK is too generic and doesn't include some of the "off the path" positions.

SFC (Join to see) I'm not a fan of ACT. People walk into my office all the time saying they saw a slot on ACT that isn't on EDAS. Their slots are outdated. Plus, there is no negotiation with your branch. They don't have any vested interest in where you go or hiding slots from you, and they don't have the power to slot you outside their manning guidance. So, while you may see that nice job in Monterrey, Thailand, Shape, or the UK, your branch has to fill the high priority requisitions first and some of those other choice assignments are going to sit unfilled forever.

I'm the Reserves, you're supposed to be promoted into a vacant position of your new grade and MOS. If you have additional MOSs then can use those also.
Once in your new unit you're supposed to stay for a year but if your command is willing to release you early they can.
This may be different for the AA.
